Tag Add-ons for Firefox

By: Wardell, On Sunday, November 30th, 2008

Tagging bookmarks is a great new feature in Firefox 3 that makes it easy to recall and search through your bookmarks. I’ve recently come across two add-ons for Firefox that make adding and using tags that much easier.

The first one I’d like to mention is TagSifter, this add-on is very similar to the Delicious sidebar except it lets you search through tags in your local Firefox bookmarks. It also let’s you use operators in your search, and adds menus to Firefox which allow you to brows your bookmarks by tags and associated tags. For information about customization and additional features visit the TagSifter Homepage.

The second add-on is called Tweez it’s an experimental add on so you’ll have to register/log in to the Mozilla add-ons site if you want to install it. Although it’s an experimental add-on I haven’t noticed any problems with it. Basically once you install Tweez you’ll be able to open a small pop-up by pressing Shift+T into which you can type your tag(s) allowing you to bookmark and tag the current page in one action, it also provides a list of auto-complete options from your current tags. Add-ons don’t get any simpler and more useful than Tweez.
